πΉ Look well ahead π Planning early means you can avoid unnecessary braking and acceleration. If you can see traffic slowing ahead, ease off the accelerator rather than rushing towards it, some of you are guilty of this at times! πΉ Let's accelerate smoothly. Hard acceleration uses far more fuel. Build your speed progressively and avoid putting your foot down unnecessarily. πΉ Maintain a steady speed Constantly speeding up and slowing down can increase fuel consumption. Work hard to maintain a steady pace, where possible. πΉ Use the gears correctly βοΈ For my manual students, select the appropriate gear and avoid unnecessarily high engine revs. Modern cars often have gear-change indicators to help you drive more efficiently, so keep your eye on your dash board and listen carefully to what tge e give wants and needs. πΉ Avoid unnecessary idling. If you're going to be stationary for a while, consider whether you really need the engine running β remember my car has a stop start engine. Make the car 'safe', and the engine will stop til you prepare the car to move on when the situation changes. πΉ Check your tyre pressures π Under-inflated tyres can increase rolling resistance, meaning your engine has to work harder and use more fuel. Check them regularly and follow the manufacturer's recommended pressures. πΉ Think about your journey πΊοΈ Combining several short trips into one journey can help reduce fuel use. π¦ Remember: economical driving should NEVER mean driving dangerously or too slowly. Your priority should always be safe, legal and considerate driving. Sometimes, simply looking further ahead and making smoother decisions can make a noticeable difference to both your driving and your fuel consumption. ππ¨ Drive smoothly. Plan early. Save fuel.
